The Film Fest Cometh!

More information about the event and a gigantic version of this poster are both available…
No RSVP is required; street parking should be ample; the building looks like this; it can be found here; 8:00pm is the starting point; and, if you show up, you’ll hear concept artists Ryan Church, James Clyne, Mark Goerner, and Ben Procter all discussing film, space, science fiction, and architecture. The films will be screened at the end.
Hope to see you there!
Meanwhile, a second night, entirely devoted to films about architecture, landscape, and the city, is still to come – once that date is finalized, we’ll have another announcement.

(Image in poster by James Clyne; for more images, by all four artists, don’t miss the film fest Flickr page).

  1. Hey David – I don’t know where it’s from, but it’s a graph of the number of comments BLDGBLOG gets, per post. Interesting.

    Where’d you find it?

  2. sorry. I guess I can’t help but be misleading today. I made this graph since I was struck by the response to the LA driving post. I know that comments aren’t votes, but what is the relationship between a successful blog and its comments? BLDGBLOG isn’t usually much commented on, but I don’t think it really suffers.

  3. Well, thanks for the graph! Interesting to see that.

I think the answer to your question depends on what a blog is for: is it for people to leave comments on and get into a dialogue? Or is it for stand-alone posts that people don’t comment on but link to, and write about, on their own blogs instead? Or some combination of the two?

BLDGBLOG seldom gets more than 20 comments per post, and only rarely gets past 40.

I think it’s less a question of quantity, in any case, when it comes to blog comments – and to blog posts – but some people just like avalanches of new content.

Speaking of which, sorry I haven’t posted in a few days – busy week! More soon – thanks again for the graph –

  4. geoff, first of all, let me say great event last night (despite the technical difficulties). however, i was expecting a deeper discourse on the relationship between the architecture of the physical world and the architecture of science fiction and so, i was a bit disappointed. thanks for putting it together though. i’m looking forward to the 2nd part.

  5. Yes Geoff thank you for putting on another great event. You may want to leave the avant-garde noise out next time though.

  6. Wow. I just discovered this site; loads of great content. I’ve decided to quit my job and spend the next month reading all the articles and not spending money. BLDG and canned beans and loads of pick-up soccer. Cheers,

    Douglas

  7. Cris, I agree – that should have been discussed; the problem was we ran out of time! Which isn’t a very good excuse, but we needed to cut short the Q&A in order to screen the films (although, as it turned out, we could have allowed at least another 5 or 10 minutes). But thanks for stopping by.

And thanks, Ben! Glad you were there. Thanks for the coverage on your site, too.

    Douglas, good luck!

Finally, I’ve posted a brief recap here.
